WWE Backlash 2016 was live from the Richmond Coliseum on September 11, 2016.
The pre-show match was Apollo Crews Vs. Baron Corbin. The crowd was firmly behind Crews. They yelled at Corbin “We don’t like you!” This just made Corbin mad and caused him to throw Creed around like a rag doll. Corbin picked up the victory.
The pay per view started with one of my favorite matches of the night, a six pack challenge to crown the new Smackdown Woman’s Champion. The match pitted Becky Lynch, Natalya, Alexa Bliss Niaomi, Nikki Bella and Carmella against each other. As I predicted Lynch picked up the victory. One really cool move Lynch did was a dive off the top rope. The crowd chanted to Lynch “you deserve it!”
The USos(Jimmy and Jey) defeated the Hype Bros(Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley) by submission to advance to the finals of the tournament to crown new Smackdown tag team champions.
The Miz defeated Dolph Ziggler. Maryse distracted the referee outside the ring for a lot of the match. She was wearing a very sexy black outfit.
Since Randy Orton got injured Kane took his place in the match against Bray Wyatt. I hoped it wasn’t true that Orton got injured because I was looking forward to that match. Rumors had surfaced on Facebook the day before. Wyatt Beat Kane. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the flames that I could feel on my face when Kane makes his entrance.
Heath Slater and Rhyno defeated the Usos in the finals of the tag team tournament to be crowned the Smackdown Tag Team Champions. This was a cool moment. I expected the Usos to win. Now Slater officially has a contract on Smackdown Live.
In my other favorite match of the night AJ Styles defeated Dean Ambrose to win the WWE World Championship. In typical AJ Styles fashion, he flew around the ring and even pulled off a Pele Kick. It was a fun match.
